Dear Santa . . .

A holiday wish list circa 2012

Santa_House_LosAngeles

I haven’t written to Santa in well over 25 years.
Secretly, I’ve wanted to though.
I love the fantasy of Santa.
A jolly man, magically squeezing down your chimney to bring you your most desired gifts.
It’s kind of awesome!

So this year, I decided to indulge myself.
And wrote a letter to the Big Man himself.
I surprised myself.
I thought I’d be writing about wanting Serge Lutens perfumes and a new Kitchen Aid Mixer.
But here’s what was written instead.

Dear Santa,

I hope you’re snuggled up there in the North Pole. With some hot cocoa and a good magazine.
I haven’t written to you in, oh I don’t know, 27 years (give or take). So you must be a bit shocked to hear from me.
The thing is Santa, this year, I don’t want anything for Christmas.

You might be asking yourself why I’m writing to you then.
Aren’t these “Dear Santa letters” supposed to list out all the crazy cool things I want you to bring me.
Like a puppy, the new Kate Moss book or the Canon 24mm/1.4 lens?

Yeah, I know. That stuff is all awesome.
And I wouldn’t mind receiving it.
But this year, I don’t want anything from you.
Instead, I want to ask you a favor.
Is that cool?

For Christmas this year . . .

let me love a little deeper
let me be more open
let me let go of judgement
let me have gratitude for all that I am blessed with
let me be patient and present with family
let my boyfriend get even closer to reaching his musical dreams in 2013
let my brother recognize how bright his awesomeness shines (just the way he is)
let my sister feel how much she is loved + admired (just the way she is)
let me mom know that she did a damn good job raising us kids and I think she’s beautiful
let my dad feel the greatness of his successes in life and how much he is loved
let my grandma be free from cancer, happy and surrounded by love
let there be a cure for cancer
let my sweet goddaughter be strong, healthy and wildly happy
let my friends touch others’ lives the way they have deeply touched mine
let my blogs continue to inspire
let my business soar
let my writing skills continue to grow so I can be a wizard with my words
let the money flow + my bank account grow
let me give, give, give – whatever I can
let me create the dream life that I have been holding onto for decades
let this country find common ground
let the world start taking care of each other (and the planet)
let there finally be peace. on. earth.

So.
That’s really it.
Thanks for granting me these teensy favors.
I hope you + the Mrs. have a rockin’ Christmas!

xo

P.S. Since no good idea should go to waste, you can gift that Kate Moss book to my brother instead – I know he’d like it. Just sayin’.

Awesome. Would Christmas be much more powerful if all letters to Santa were like this.
